What if Nexon EV battery pack gets damaged after 8 years I.E after the warranty period?
TATA NEXON brings to you, a program to secure your car against unforeseen breakdowns and repair bills, even after the original warranty is over. You can extend your original warranty by one or two more years through Tata Motors Extended Warranty Program. This will cover mechanical and electrical breakdown on your Tata Vehicle and it starts immediately after expiry of the original warranty.You can purchase the Extended Warranty from any Tata Motors Authorized showroom or workshop- at any dealership of your choice. Tata Nexon strongly recommend purchase of Extended Warranty at time of purchase of your vehicle so that you can save on the surcharge that is levied beyond 90 days from date of sale of the vehicle. So even if your EV Battery Pack gets damaged after 8 years i.e after the warranty period – if you are under the Extended Warranty Program Nexon will cover the unforeseen breakdowns and repair bills.
Brief background on the Type of Battery Warranties of TATA Nexon
The Tata Nexon EV Battery offers three types of warranties:
- 8 years/1.6 lakh km warranty on the battery and motor
- 3 years/1.25 lakh km standard vehicle warranty
- 5 years optional extended warranty pack
The top variant in Battery pack is of 8 Year or 1,60,000 km (whichever is earlier)
Tata Nexon EV comes with non-removable 30.2kWh battery. There is no provision to keep an extra battery and also it won’t be a practical idea to carry an extra battery as it would be too heavy which result in low efficiency of the car.
Tata Nexon EV – While it claims a range of 312km – it may be hard to reach, driving with even a little patience should get you 200-250km of range on a full charge. The battery pack of the Nexon EV is IP67 rated i.e. it can be submerged in water 1 metre deep for up to 30mins without sustaining damage. This sub-compact SUV’s battery has been approved after several tests, including Nail Penetration Test, Crush Test, Fire Pond Test, Overcharge Protection Test, Shock Protection Test and Short Circuit Protection Test. The estimated cost for a 0-100 per cent charge using your home charger is Rs 300-350. Battery charge times can vary based on the outside temperature as the battery itself draws power to maintain its operating temperature.
The battery of Tata Nexon EV car is 30 kwh. If the unit price of electricity in your area is 8 Rs/unit, it would take approx. 31 units to charge the battery fully. Meaning 31 x 8 = Rs. 248 for fully charging the battery. With driving range around 320-340 kms at full battery. The mileage comes at around 320/248= Rs 1.29/km.Pretty cheap i would say, even cheaper than CNG vehicle, also the maintenance cost in an EV vehicle is far less than Petrol and Diesel vehicle.
